OUR HISTORY

The Genesis of C-Care staff SACCO

IMG Staff SACCO was first registerd in November 2014 under Registration No. 10905 RCS and later during the 9th AGM members agreed to change the name to C-care Staff Saving and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO) which was duly registered on 28th May 2024. 

 

As part of the 10 years celebrations, we are pleased to bring to you an extract of how the C-care Staff SACCO was formed.

Definitions

IMG stands for International Medical Group which comprises of International Hospital Kampala (IHK), International Medical Centers (IMCs), and international Medical Group Pharmacuticals (IMGPs) and International Medical Foundation (IMF)

Purpose

The spirit of forming IMG Staff SACCO followed by a desire by IMG Leadership to lessen pressure on its finances but also serve better its employees through the encouragement of deposits / savings and investments accordingly.

“Armed with my idea, I shared it with one IMG SMT (Senior Management Team) member Mr. Joel Oroni and was in agreement that he would back me up at the next Tuesday’s SMT Meeting. During the meeting I highlighted the staff challenge and showed the need to allow those able to pay back to get loans through staff scheme. My proposal was resisted in the SMT meeting.”

“My resolution to improve the plight of the was staff was not gone. At the next SMT Meeting, I brought up the same idea of a Staff Scheme (SACCO) even with support of one SMT Member, I still lost the battle!”

Unable to relent, I brought out the same idea at the 3th SMT Meeting. Questions were asked and there was a very unique concern that the “HR Department would take company time to do non-company business.” My response was that “I had experience in SACCO and thus it would be easy to staff to assist staff but also a way of retaining employees.”

Months went by with no positive feedback and finally the entire SMT was convinced that we were so determined to have something for staff.

One morning during another SMT Meeting, the team was convinced.

The CEO then Dr. Ian Clerk was please by the idea and he donated to IMG Staff SACCO a number of things.

 

  1. He Bought Shares worth 50,000/= for the first 50 members to register with IMG Staff SACCO totaling to UGX 2,500,000.

  2. He donated UGX 1.8m to fund (pay) the SACCO Administrator’s salary. We therefore recruited the first employee in SACCO activities.

  3. He donated Office space for the SACCO activities.

  4. He donated a desktop computer fully connected to the IMG Internet for SACCO use.

 

Having gone through this, the IMG Staff SACCO was born and registered in November 2014.
